The Final Meeting for the review of the best available techniques reference document for the Surface Treatment of Metals and Plastics  (STM BREF) will take place as a hybrid meeting between 28 September and 2 October 2026.

The Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) Article 75 Committee gave a positive opinion on both the draft Commission Implementing Decision laying down rules for the application of Directive 2010/75/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council as regards uniform conditions for operating rules for intensive rearing of poultry and pigs (the so-called UCOL) as well as on the draft Commission Implementing Decision amending Implementing Decision 2012/119/EU as regards the practical arrangements for the exchange of information referred to in Article 13(3), points (c) and (d), of Directive 2010/75/EU, the collection of data and the drawing up or review of BAT reference documents and their quality assurance. The votes took place on 13 July.

On 24 to 26 March 2026, EU BRITE hosted the second data assessment workshop for the review of the BREF for the surface treatment of metals and plastics (STM BREF). The workshop fostered a shared understanding and reinforced cooperation among EU Member States, non‑governmental organisations and industry associations, while discussing emissions to water, emissions to air and energy and water consumption.

The review of the BAT reference document for Iron and steel production (IS BREF) has started with the reactivation of the Technical Working Group (TWG) on 6 March 2026.

The frontloading/initial input of information for the Reference Document on Best Available Techniques for the production of batteries in gigafactories (PBG BREF) has started. The PBG Technical Working Group is invited to provide initial information through the PBG BREF frontloading survey by 24 March 2026.

The Final Meeting for the review of the best available techniques reference document for the Ceramic Manufacturing Industry (CER BREF) took place as a hybrid meeting between 2 and 6 February 2026.  Over 130 experts, representing EU Member States, industry, environmental NGOs, the European Chemical Agency (ECHA) and services of the Commission, participated in the meeting to finalise the first BAT conclusions under the IED 2.0.

The Kick-off Meeting report for the drawing up of the Best Available Techniques Reference Document for landfills (LAN BREF) is available on the EU-BRITE website. The KoM took place in hybrid format from 6 - 9 October 2025.
